Overview
SQWD ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by Ardestre LAB LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the SQWD mobile application and website (sqwd.app). By using SQWD, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — name, email address, and password when you register
- Profile information — sports, skill level, availability, bio, profile photo, and gallery photos you choose to share
- Location data — your general location (city/neighborhood) to help match you with nearby players. We do not collect precise GPS coordinates in the background without your explicit permission
- Messages — direct messages you send and receive through the app
- Connection data — your connections, pending requests, and blocked users
- Usage data — how you interact with the app, including screens visited and features used
- Device data — device type, operating system, and push notification tokens
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Match you with nearby athletes who play the same sports
- Enable messaging between connected users
- Send push notifications about connections, messages, and events (you can opt out in Settings)
- Improve the app experience through aggregated, anonymized usage analytics
- Respond to support requests and enforce our Terms of Service
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising targeting.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a managed cloud database platform hosted on AWS infrastructure. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We implement row-level security policies to ensure users can only access data they are authorized to see.
Profile photos and media are stored in Supabase Storage with access controls that prevent unauthorized access.
Location Information
SQWD requests access to your location solely to show your general area on your profile and to help match you with nearby players. Specifically:
- Location is only accessed when you are actively using the app (foreground use)
- We store only your city or neighborhood — not precise coordinates
- You can update or remove your location at any time in your profile settings
Sharing Your Information
We share your information only in these limited circumstances:
- Other SQWD users — your public profile (name, sports, skill level, location, bio, photos) is visible to other users on the platform
- Service providers — Supabase (database and storage), Expo (mobile push notifications). These providers process data only as necessary to deliver the service
- Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, connections, messages, and all associated data from our systems. Some residual data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before being purged.
Your Rights & Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — view and download your profile data at any time within the app
- Correction — update your profile information at any time in the app
- Deletion — permanently delete your account and all data from within the app (Profile → Delete Account). This cannot be undone
- Notifications — opt out of push notifications in your device settings or in the SQWD notification settings screen
- Location — revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings

Children's Privacy
SQWD is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately and we will delete that information.
Third-Party Services
SQWD uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and storage (supabase.com/privacy)
- Expo / EAS — mobile build and push notification infrastructure (expo.dev/privacy)
- Apple Sign In / Google Sign In — optional OAuth login providers
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. The "Effective date" at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of SQWD after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
